Why Working in Chicago is Worth It

Chicago_Office_Space.jpgDo you love Chicago, but aren’t sure if working here is right for you? If you’ve never worked in the Windy City, it may seem a little intimidating at first. It is the third largest city in the U.S. after all. It’s big, it’s busy, and it boasts a huge population of hard-core professionals. Does Chicago even have room for anyone else?

Well, let us assure you it does. And despite any setbacks the city might have, they don’t hold a candle to the value of working in Chicago.

Chicago offers employment opportunities in almost any trade you can imagine. Be it business, finance, manufacturing, tech, communication, information, transportation, or health- Chicago offers them all and so much more. This makes it a promising work destination for nearly anyone.

But that’s not the only reason it’s worth working in Chicago. Check out our list of our favorite perks of working in Chicago.

  1. Central travel hub. Chicago is pretty much smack-dab in the middle of the country, and has two major airports. This means that any traveling you have to do for business – at least in the U.S. – will be much more efficient. Say goodbye to coast-to-coast flights!

  2. Convenient public transportation. Travel within the city is just as convenient with a wide range of public transportation options. If you work outside of the city, the Metra train connects multiple suburbs and leads into the Chicago Loop. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates in and around the city. The CTA runs Chicago’s “L” trains and buses. And there’s no shortage of green, environment friendly options either, as Divvy bike rentals can be found all over the city.

  3. Cultural diversity. Chicago really is a melting pot of different cultures, and it brings so much life and energy to the city! Not only does this make fitting in a breeze for everyone, but it also brings unique and various talent and knowledge to the business world.

  4. Profound infrastructure. Chicago’s infrastructure alone is a great reason to be working in the city. Step outside the office, and you have a plethora of services at your fingertips. From nearly anywhere in the city, you can access amazing food, relax in a green park, or carry out daily errands.

  5. Nature in the big city. Speaking of green parks, Chicago has a ton of them, and the Chicago Park District is one of the largest municipal park managers in the nation! Oftentimes, big cities can feel like a concrete jungle, but not in Chicago. Finding a patch of green to refresh yourself during your workday is easy with over 8,000 acres of green space!

  6. Great people. A lot of the country recognizes mid-westerners as laid-back and friendly. While Chicago hosts an abundance of driven, hard-working professionals, they haven’t forgotten their roots. The majority of Chicago’s population is willing to lend a hand and welcome others, making it a thriving environment for newcomers.

  7. Work in Chicago and you can work anywhere. Ok, maybe this isn’t a hard fact, but as many business-people know, if you have a Chicago company on your resume, you stand out. Let’s not forget the reputation this city has for turning out some amazing products and ideas. And since Chicago has a profusion of talent, placing yourself among that talent bodes well for your future.
