Last month, we began a new initiative at Amata. It’s nothing too big, nothing too challenging, but something very important to us all. What we began was our Workplace Wellness Initiative, and what we’re interested in is providing you with the tools and information to promote a healthy atmosphere in which you can work and to encourage you to extend healthy habits into your lifestyle. We do this because we don’t identify with being just a business. We are a community, and we want to keep our community happy and healthy.
Over the years of working as and with fellow office-based professionals, we have seen trends that have validated the office’s bad rep as a health hazard. We have discussed lately just how bad sitting all day is for our health (The Schedule that can Save the Office Worker’s Life). And we’re probably all familiar with that co-worker who brings in the box of doughnuts every week (or maybe you are that coworker). If you work in Chicago, where our Amata Office Centers are located, you are surrounded by a wealth of scrumptious food selections-some very healthy and some packed with calories disguised as flavor. If you work out of a home-based office, you have that pesky fridge calling your name every 40 minutes. Whatever your situation, the odds are if you work in an office environment, the opportunity to take the unhealthy road is certainly there.
Hence, we have the creation of our Workplace Wellness Initiative. We know we can’t remove all of the negative influences to our health (and let’s be honest-sometimes we really, really just want them), but we can try to recommend or provide alternative options that may be better for our health.
So now that you know why we are doing this, let’s go over what you need to do. It’s a really simple self-monitored system. We aren’t here to keep public track-records. This is up to you. The benefit? Getting healthy!
Step 1: Follow Amata Office Solutions on social media.
We will be promoting the Workplace Wellness Initiative through social media and the occasional Amata email. If you don’t already follow our social media channels, you can do it now! Our challenges and announcements will be posted on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Our Pinterest page is always being updated with great info on health and wellness at home and for the office.
Step 2: Sign up for blog updates.

Step 3: Attend our health-related events and accept our Workplace Wellness Challenges.
We occasionally hold Lunch and Learns and other events that can provide you with healthy-living tips. These are free to you as an Amata member, and are a great way to incorporate some positive health education into your workday. We have also begun weekly challenges that are posted on social media at the beginning of the week. The point of these challenges is to integrate healthy choices into your life during your workweek. You can complete these challenges on your own or get a group of coworkers together to take on the challenge as a team!
Our name, Amata Office Solutions says it all. We know that the office environment easily becomes a home-away-from home for a lot of professionals, whether it is a good one, or a bit lackluster.
